Our English Language School in San Diego
Intrax San Diego is located in what the city government calls "America's Finest City". San Diego's economy has been booming in the last decade, with growth in the international business, high technology and medical technology sectors. One of the reasons for San Diego's success in these areas is its concentration of great research institutions.
The University of California, San Diego is a top science and technology institution; San Diego State University hosts exceptional business and communications programs;
and the University of San Diego excels at business and law.
In addition to these great universities, San Diego is home to numerous community colleges for students who want to prepare for university study or for careers in the area's growing high-tech, medical and tourism industries. Intrax San Diego is a perfect stepping stone for international students who want to build their English skills for their future college or university studies and business careers or who want a practical training experience through our Professional Internship Program.
Our Center
Intrax San Diego is located in the John Hancock building in Little Italy. It is only a short walk away from downtown San Diego, the historic Gaslamp Quarter, the San Diego harbor, and beautiful Balboa Park. The center is a place that students describe as incredibly warm and welcoming; a place where students want to come for class and stay to hang out after school too.
Our school is equipped with comfortable desks and chairs, making for a very inviting learning environment. We also have a welcoming student lounge, where students gather during their breaks and after class to socialize, make new friends and practice their English. Finally, Intrax students tell us how happy they are to be able to take the TOEFL exam at our school. Intrax San Diego is an official TOEFL testing center. We are pleased to offer several test dates to our students throughout the year.
Our Staff
Intrax San Diego's staff members are here to support our students, from the Student Services team, the Administration team and the Academic department. Our goal as a staff is to really get to know the students and ask them how we can help.
An excellent addition to our staff is our invaluable student ambassadors. At Intrax we give our students the opportunity to see what it's like to work at a language school. The ambassadors know every aspect of the school because they are students too. They help students acclimate to living in San Diego. They understand what students go through when they arrive and the extra help needed for them to feel at home. The ambassadors are instrumental in planning activities, promoting Intrax events, keeping the school sparkling clean and are a huge asset to our Intrax family.
Our Students
The student body at Intrax San Diego is very diverse, which makes it a great place for students to make friends with people from all over the world. During a recent beach volleyball activity, we counted at least 13 student nationalities at the school–some from every continent!
Since more than one-third of our students plan to attend college or university in the United States or Canada after they have completed their ESL classes and TOEFL test preparation at Intrax, we organize College Fairs at the center and invite representatives from colleges and universities to come and speak with students. These fairs are a great opportunity for students to learn more about colleges and universities in Southern California.
Our Teachers
Intrax San Diego has a diverse group of professional teachers who enjoy getting to know students both in the classroom and outside of the school. To further enhance our academic curriculum, we listen to our teachers and conduct surveys in class so we can incorporate student feedback
.
Our teachers pride themselves in being well travelled individuals who are open to all cultures. They have all lived in foreign countries and can easily understand what our students are going through when they first arrive and as they are adjusting to a new culture and a new language. All of our teachers are highly qualified, well experienced professionals who strive to make learning fun. The energy they bring to the school is what makes Intrax the best learning environment.
Our Classes
Intrax San Diego's students are dedicated to their studies, and have particularly enjoyed the option to choose between Afternoon Focus Classes and Friday Focus Classes with the Intensive Schedule. Their favorite classes are Power Presentation Skills and Speaking Success, as well as Writing for Success and Conversation Power
.
Students who participate in the Professional Certificate in Business & Management (PCBM) course will present their research project to the center at the end of their program. This is a great opportunity for our business students to practice their presentation skills in English, while encouraging their peers to work towards the business certificate program as well. Pia, a student from Germany, has described the PCBM course as an "excellent introductory survey of business and a great way for advanced English students to apply their language and business skills."
The Accommodations
San Diego's unique laid-back lifestyle sets it apart from other large cities and Intrax San Diego offers several living options for our students. Many students choose to live with one of our carefully chosen homestay families and really enjoy the opportunity to get to know an American family this way. One student recently described how much fun he had on a weekend camping trip with his homestay family and how much he loves hanging out with them.
Other students choose to live in our recommended student residences.
The newest addition to our recommended residences is Hotel Occidental. Hotel Occidental is San Diego's premier hybrid hotel, combining stylish decor and contemporary amenities with old-world charm and appeal. The hotel is a comfortable home away from home, offering a central location, free bicycles and breakfast buffet. Another recommended residence, Vantaggio Suites, continues to be a favorite among students looking to meet and interact with students from all over the world.
