San Francisco remains one of the biggest centers for the IT industry in the United States. Our Center
Intrax San Francisco is made up of two centers on the same street. Both centers are conveniently located only a couple minutes walk from the from the famous shopping district, Union Square, the busy Financial District and fancy Nob Hill; you never have to look far to find a vibrant café or an
upscale boutique or even public transportation to other areas of the city.
The main center has a large grand foyer, soothing blue walls and sleek, modern furniture. A spacious computer lab can be found next to the billiards room and students can read or socialize on the cozy back deck. The second center is made up of three floors of newly-renovated classrooms and always has friendly staff at the front desk ready to help you plan your next adventure.
Our Staff
Every staff member at Intrax San Francisco is knowledgeable, passionate and extremely friendly. Ted, our Activities Coordinator arranges events like BBQ's in Dolores Park or outings to
baseball games. The activities change from month to month. Our past activities include attending the Jazz Festival in North Beach, bicycling over the Golden Gate Bridge and a night trip to the DeYoung Museum!
The rest of our staff is very energetic; Lindsay, Student Services Supervisor, is always ready to offer advice and Dean can be found answering the phone in any one of six languages throughout the day.
Our Teachers
The teachers at Intrax San Francisco are professionals who love what they do. Elisbeth Lindgren, the
Academic Supervisor, brings years of experience to her position. She personally meets and approves every prospective teacher who walks through our doors, which ensures that only the most knowledgeable and energetic teachers work with Intrax students.
We are proud to train and employ teachers such as Sherri, who is universally adored and respected by students and staff.
Our Students
We have a wide range of students from countries as diverse as Mongolia, Germany and Brazil. While most are college-aged, our students range from ages 18-50;
take Erna and Natasha, two of our students from Switzerland who are grandmother and granddaughter. Some students have very basic speaking skills and others have been learning English for many years. Some students decide to study at Intrax with a friend or family member and others enroll alone.
The one thing that all Intrax students have in common is their excitement for studying English in the USA.
Our Classes
The Intrax curriculum has been designed to accelerate learning in students of all skill levels and learning styles. Our teachers are encouraged to incorporate visual aids, video and current news articles as learning tools, as well as use the inductive teaching method to help students understand and use grammar quickly and easily.
Lessons are focused on creating real-life situations in the classroom so that our students are able to apply the newly acquired knowledge in their everyday lives. Intrax students can always decide to add a full day of classes to their schedules when they choose the Intensive or Super Intensive schedule with Friday Focus classes.
Intrax puts great emphasis on developing additional programs for students who would like to add technical or business-specific vocabulary to their English skills set. Our Professional Certificate in Business and Management (PCBM) is a popular program which focuses on Business English and American practices in management, marketing and communications.
The Accommodations
We have many choices available for students in need of housing. The Vantaggio is a hotel-type residence club with three locations in the heart of downtown San Francisco. The Vantaggio features stunning city views, cleaning service once a week, dining halls and free internet connection.
The Park Hotel borders Chinatown and the Financial District, offers the most affordable private rooms, while the USA Student Residences has the Underground Café, a cool place to watch a heated football matches on their enormous TV.
Alternatively, many students choose to be fully immersed in American culture and live with one of our carefully selected host families. Mei Cooley, our experienced Student Advisor, works with each student on an individual basis to determine the most suitable accommodation option for them.
A Typical Day at Intrax San Francisco
9:00 AM
Every morning, Intrax students walk to the center from their Residence Clubs, or travel on one of the convenient public transportation options. Some students like to arrive before their first class begins so that they can meet with their friends in the student lounge and plan what activities they will do together when classes end.
11:30 AM
Our center is located in the middle of the theater and shopping district so there are all kinds of restaurants and cafes to choose from. Some students like to hang out and eat their lunch with friends in the main lobby, others like to pick up a sandwich from one of the delis and sit in the middle of Union Square or in a park, and many decide to visit one of their favorite restaurants in the area.
3:30 PM
When classes end for the day, some students stay in the building to surf the web in the downstairs computer lab; some students like to study that day's lesson from the comfort of the sofa in the common area; and others like to go home and prepare for that night's planned activities.
WEEKENDS
Intrax students also have a wide variety of activities from which to choose every evening and weekend. The weekends are a great time for exploring the city with new friends or taking advantage of the beautiful parks by picnicking, sunbathing or even playing sports.
San Francisco has many fun activities for students: Students may go out for a delicious Italian dinner and a night of dancing in North Beach, or walk the historic Barbary Coast trail. Others will go for a hike and look at the buffalo in Golden Gate Park, or even see a live concert! The university town of Berkeley is also just a short ride to the east of San Francisco over the Bay Bridge and the Marin redwood forests, north over the Golden Gate Bridge, are always worth the trip.
